The queen of trail advocacy
Amy Scharmen-Burgdolf has been enjoying Michigan’s horse trails since age 6 when she got her first pony. Never one for arena riding, instead riding the woods, on trails, country roads and farm lanes were what called to her soul. Amy has traveled with her horses and riding friends around the entire state of Michigan and beyond. Exploring new horse trails is her favorite kind of adventure. Amy serves as the Chair and Southeast Michigan representative of the Equine Trails Subcommittee to the DNR and on the Michigan Trails Advisory Council to the DNR as an equestrian representative. Seeing a need for organized information about Michigan’s horse trails, Amy created the Michigan Horse Trails Directory which highlights the horse trail riding, camping and volunteer organizations who advocate for the horse trails in Michigan. You can find the directory at www.michiganhorsetrails.com and join the Michigan Horse Trails Directory Facebook group where you will find detailed information on Michigan’s horse trails, camping and volunteering. Amy has created and maintains websites and social media for various horse trail organizations within Michigan and has served on the board of these organizations. Amy helps to maintain horse trails around the state and recently has been diving into the world of sustainable trail design to assure the future of Michigan’s horse trails. All of this volunteer work has culminated into the creation of the Michigan Horse Trails Association so we can better serve and represent the trail riders and volunteers of Michigan’s Horse Trails.
