• Bring your own horse. There are no rentals available for this riding season.
• $10/horse Michigan DNR Registration. Registrations for November shoreline horseback riding open on September 1 at 8am EDT annually Monday-Friday, 9am EDT annually Saturday-Sunday. REGISTER HERE by choosing the Equestrian Tab and Silver Lake Equestrian Staging Area.
• If you cannot use your reservation, please Cancel it within your DNR camping reservation account so others may attend that day.
• You will need to have a Michigan Recreation Passport on your vehicle. Click the Michigan DNR Shoreline Horseback Ride Registration tab on our Home page for more information.
• The Staging Area address is: 8960 West Fox Rd, Mears, MI 49436
• You must clean up after your horse. Manure trailer is provided in the parking area. Please bring your own manure fork and muck bucket to pick up your hay and manure in the Silver Lake State Park Equestrian Staging Area and either take home with you or deposit in the manure trailer.
• Bring water for both you and your horse. There is no drinking water resource available on location.
• Optional bring an extra set of clothes including socks and boots.
• Optional bring a blanket or cooler for your horse.
• Please do not ride on the dunegrass or Critical Dune Areas, only ride on the designated dune route and the beach.
• Gates open at 8am and close AT 5:30pm. Please be loaded up and out of the gates PRIOR to 5:30pm.
• Photographers must apply for a permit with the DNR.
