Fort Custer Horse Friends Association built their new equestrian campground in 2019 and now it is our first public equestrian campground with electricity! Seven overnight camping sites sit just off the staging area, all with electrical hook up. With seven water crossings and over 18 miles of horse trails plus another 5 of multi-use trails, there’s plenty of trails for a weekend of riding! On top of that, there are many opportunities to join FCHFA for a potluck and ride, a work bee, or for their two camping weekends each year.

Fort Custer is located near Battle Creek, MI. The trails, maintained by Fort Custer Horse Friends Association, are mowed regularly, trimmed as needed with some wide enough for side-by-side riding. Water crossings all have good footing and are usually quite shallow. There are two bridge opportunities for testing you and your horses skill and confidence. Both present a different challenge. Each of the seven campsites features electricity, a gravel pad; six are nice and wide for easy drive-in or back-in access, while the remaining site has pull-thru parking. Sites #6 and #7 have 30A & 50A service, for those big trailers. Each site has its own set of 3 to 4 picket poles surrounded by sand footing for easy good drainage and cleanup; with plenty of room between horses. Sites 4, 5 and 6 have two covered corrals each. Two trails are easily accessible near sites #1 and #6, with two more leave from across the big parking lot. Additionally, each site features its own fire ring and picnic table. Water is available at a hand-pump, there is a pit toilet, and a covered pavilion with picnic tables. The pavilion now has electricity too.
