Scott is relatively new to the horse world. After spending many years racing motocross with the support of his wife Dawn, he decided it was time for a change. It was time to focus on Dawn’s dream of riding horses. Over the last 10 years, they have ridden nearly every horse trail in upper and lower Michigan. They have also traveled with their horses and two dogs to ride in Utah, South Dakota, Tennessee, Kentucky, and New York. Dawn and Scott both serve on the board of the Ortonville Recreation Equestrian Association (OREA) where they have to improve the campground and trail system. The DNR, OREA board and volunteers have worked hard building corrals, redesigning the campground, creating a usable day use area, making major trail repairs, re-routes and even the addition of new trail. All have been completed in an effort to create an environment where families and friends can come to have an enjoyable camping and riding experience. Scott is also involved with the Michigan Horse Trails Association (MHTA) Board as they create an Equestrian Amenities Design Guide and with the DNR on the statewide non-motorized, natural surface trail maintenance project. Scott feels the best part of this whole horse-riding experience has been the amazing new friendships he and Dawn have found along the way. It’s been a wonderful journey of fun, excitement, humility, and continual learning.
