We had a great time at the Michigan Horse Trails Association hosted LAER workshop in Pinckney, MI on June 8! Thank you Vicki Schmidt for being our fearless leader and sharing your knowledge of Large Animal Emergency Rescue. I want to express how very impressed I am with the first responders commitment and openness to learning and the great questions asked. I have a whole new appreciation to your dedication to the public’s safety and am looking forward to what we can do together to build upon this information. Thank you to the horse owners who joined us to learn what we can do to help us to better respond in an emergency and what we can do to get our horses rescue ready. The bonus is that all of that training will also transfer over to a better trail riding and camping horse. Thank you to the U.P. Sailing Company for flying Vicki to MI, sharing her with us and helping get her transported downstate. Special thanks to Sue Armstrong for your help with the day.

Along with the Ortonville, Highland, Kensington, Pinckney and the Michigan Horse Trails Association, we were able to sponsor all of our first responders, thank you so much! This included DNR from Ortonville, Waterloo, Highland. Kenny from Ortonville DNR shared his experience rescuing a horse stuck in a bog at Ortonville and how his thinking outside the box saved the 28 yr old horse’s life. Fire departments from Stockbridge, Unadilla, Chelsea, Salem, White Lake joined us for the day. Washtenaw County Tech Rescue, Lenawee County Sherriff’s Mounted Unit and Clinton County Animal Control also attended. Thank you EVERYONE for caring and wanting to increase your knowledge to respond in an emergency!
